8X on the Park

8X is a mixed-use tower located in the heart of the Yaletown neighbourhood, anchoring the east corner of Emery Barnes Park. The site is positioned at a very dynamic node, surrounded by park space, a heritage building, and a diverse mix of strata towers. While the tower stands prominently, it does so through highly contextual responses to the urban environment. The primary design approach was to scale down the tower by treating three primary volumes as independently responsive to a contextual zone. Ultimately these three unique elements unify within one volume, balancing architectural expression with contextual urbanism. Each element defines an individual program; a retail undercut, rental base, and strata tower. An abundance of amenity is distributed within the development, with two large outdoor spaces located on the 10th floor recess and tower rooftop. A daycare facility is located at grade fronting onto the park space.
