Archetype

Archetype

The False Creek Flats are home to one of Vancouver’s most historical industrial zones, established over a hundred years ago following the infill of False Creek. To help preserve this industrial space while bolstering the provision of rental units, the new zoning bylaw allows for a diverse mix of uses within a single development. Archetype will be only the second project in Canada to combine light industrial uses with multi-family residential dwellings. These uses are supplemented by a large office component, creating a unique micro-community that serves both housing and employment, with excellent proximity to centralised infrastructure and the downtown core. The proposed development occupies a linear site, bisected by a public Arts Walk and bookended by two mid-rise tower forms. Light industrial spaces activate the ground plane, wrapping around the full periphery of the site to promote walkability and reinforce a sense of community within the emerging neighbourhood.
