Khupkhahpay’ay
The 81-unit affordable housing project embraces First Nations values and draws on local Indigenous home building traditions. Consistent with this tradition, Khupkhahpay’ay will be built with mass timber and will aim to achieve Passive House designation, further in accordance with the values that enable people to live in harmony and balance with the nature by respectfully using natural resources. The façade is envisioned as a woven cedar basket that will incorporate Indigenous artwork. The proposed design will feature pre-manufactured mass timber floor panels and envelope enclosure wall panels. This innovative approach will reduce the project’s environmental footprint and community impact during construction.
