Soroptomist House

The housing project at 550 West 13th Avenue in Vancouver, British Columbia, is the first development project in Western Canada developed, designed, and delivered by an entirely female team.
550 West 13th provides affordable housing for single working women to women-led families and senior women. Different tenures are equally spread throughout the building, promoting intergenerational living and social connections. The building design integrates an efficient, minimally articulated building form with a dynamic, fluid balcony expression that sets the building apart from its neighbouring rectilinear towers.
The organic, curvilinear, and airy design aligns with Soroptimist’s aesthetic for a welcoming, empowering building for and by women.
